Faith at St. Mary

Faith Celebrations and Mass

Students and Staff regularly celebrate mass at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. In our Catholic school, religious traditions are honoured in various forms: prayer, school and class liturgies, celebrations, symbols, bulletin boards and prayer tables. St. Mary also provides opportunities for students to express their faith through prayer services, school assemblies, charitable donations and fundraising. A partnership between Church, school and home is fostered through the celebration of the Eucharist and the Sacraments and also by supporting families and children in need.

Rainbows
St. Mary School offers the Rainbows program. This year we have two support groups. Rainbows is for children who are living in single parent families, step-families or families that may be going through painful transitions. Rainbows is a support group to assist your child in expressing and understanding his/her feelings, to feel acceptance for what has happened, and to feel a sense of belonging and love.

Food Drives
Annual food drives are held at the school to help fill the shelves at the local food bank. The drives are held to enhance our Catholic and Christian spirit in helping members of our community who are in need. The school works in cooperation with the Capreol Lions Club.

About our Patron Saint

St. Mary School derived its name from the patron saint of the Roman Catholic Community in Capreol, Our Lady of Peace. St. Mary is Our Lady of Peace. She also is known by many other titles: the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, and the Mother of God. Mary asks that we pray the Rosary daily.

The Month of May is both named for and dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God while October is dedicated to the Rosary. Mary’s birthday is celebrated on September 8. The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on December 8 while the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is observed on August 15.

Mary’s statue stands at the entrance of our school and has been there to welcome all who enter her portals and to protect all who leave. She was placed there at the official opening Sunday Dec. 6 1953, and will remain there as a symbol of the faith that our people place in the power of her intercession.

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with you
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death. Amen
